Forget What Is Behind

A+ A-
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:12-14

Today, I feel like I'm finishing another chapter in my life. Thinking back to last year, I felt the same way. There is a natural rhythm to life that we all seem to feel this time of year. It's a great time to close out the old year and bring in the new year.

In a couple of weeks, many of us will be creating our resolutions for the new year. We'll be creating our goals, making new commitments, and feel the energy of promise flowing in our being. But that's in a couple of weeks. We are in the limbo period right now. The hectic push to get our Christmas shopping done is there, but there is also a slowing down before the year ends. We're wrapping up our business in many cases in expectation of a slow week to come.

Why don't we use these natural feelings to go a little deeper. Reflect on what went right and what went wrong this year. Then, put it behind you. Dig deep, get it all out. Write down your lessons learned but forget your mistakes. Holding on to things that you've done wrong is called guilt. Guilt is one of the major causes of illness in the world today. So, I know it's not easy, but it is time.

Remember, you have to let go of the rung you are on before you can reach the next step of the ladder. Here's to climbing higher in the new year.
