What Customers Are Saying

"The Project Tracker is a powerful tool and much easier to use than Microsoft Project. The color changes of the cells provide a clear visual signal of tasks that are on or behind schedule. Being designed in Microsoft Excel makes the file easy to share with co-workers and associates. One of the regions of our company has adopted it for monthly operational reporting."

Have you ever felt like you were knee deep in alligators? With so many things wanting your attention, how do you stay focused on what's really important to you? This is the question that is most important in the Attention Economy.

While time management has a part to play, it will have no lasting benefit without mental clarity of your dreams, goals, and desires. Once you have clarity, the results will come quickly as you will automatically align your actions and resources with your desire. The frustration for most people is casued by conflicting desires and constant distractions.

If you want to reduce or eliminate distractions in your life, try these techniques:

1. Plan ahead of time. Whether it's a major project or a simple phone call, a little planning will go a long way in improving your effectiveness. It is easier to maintain focus in your daily activities when you attach both a purpose and a general outline of your approach.

2. Identify your Goals, Projects, and Tasks. Goals are different than Projects and Projects are different than Tasks. One of the keys among successful people is the ability to see the big picture, yet, translate the big picture into an executable plan. The process that is used most often is to make a distinction between Goals and the Actions necessary to achieve the goals. Specifically, Goals can be achieved by breaking them down into Projects and breaking the Projects down into Tasks (or specific physical actions).

3. Set a deadline. For every Goal, Project, and Task you have, you should have a proposed date or time to complete it. If you have to change it later, that's okay. However, not having a due date will prevent you from firmly establishing your commitment with yourself. With no commitment, a goal is no more than a dream.

4. Keep your goals, projects, and tasks in view. One of the reasons that we created the Bubble Planner is to make it easier to see your prior commitments. This gives you courage to prevent or remove distractions when they appear.

5. Physically reduce distractions. Think about how you are allowing distractions into your home and work life. For example, does your computer make a sound when you get a new e-mail? If so, why is this necessary? Why don't you check your e-mail when you are ready? If you allow your environment free access to your attention, it will dictate your day and your life.

When you are able to reduce or eliminate the distractions in your life, you are on your way to living the life that you really want.
