"I got my planner today and I love it!!!!!  I teach at the local College and I think this will help me plan better for future projects.  In fact, I'm going to have the college bookstore order some in for my students.  It will work perfect for their final project.

How Adults with ADD Can Use the Bubble Planner for Effective Time Management

By Jennifer Koretsky, author of Odd One Out: The Maverick’s Guide to Adult ADD

For adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), details are a drag. We tend to see the big picture and want to jump straight to the finish line, wishing we could skip all the steps in between. Unfortunately, this perspective often causes us to become overwhelmed when it's time to start a project. We know where we want to end up, but we don't know where to start.

The same is true for day-to-day life. Adults with ADD start the day knowing what should ideally get accomplished, but not sure where to begin or how to prioritize. Boredom and frustration set in, making it difficult to finish what we set out to do. This leads to stress and guilt, which can spiral into more bad feelings, and less action.

In order to avoid this scenario, adults with ADD can learn to make daily planning a routine. The Bubble Planner is a great tool for keeping track of your daily goals and tasks.

Here is a simple, 3-step process you can employ in order to use the Bubble Planner for Effective Time Management:

  • Plan the Time to Plan.
Decide on a time of day when you can consistently take 15 minutes to plan. It can be a set time (8:00 PM) or simply "right before bed." Many adults with ADD find that the best time to plan is late in the day, when they are more alert. This works easily, as you can plan for the following day rather than stressing about it before you go to sleep!
  • Review Your Calendar.
Flip to the “Roadmap” and “Radar” sections of your Bubble Planner to record any new projects and appointments. See what appointments you have scheduled the next day. Use this information to judge how much time you’ll have available during your day to complete tasks.
  • Review Your Daily Goals and Projects.
Review your Bubble Planner to see which tasks and goals you accomplished since your last planning session. Take the time to acknowledge the goals and tasks you completed by crossing them out or highlighting them. This way, you focus on not just what you have to do, but what you did do.
Next, flip to a new day in your Bubble Planner and begin recording everything you want to accomplish the next day, starting with any tasks left over from the previous day.

Making a commitment to daily planning will allow you to take advantage of your Bubble Planner for effective time management, reduce stress, and better manage your ADD!
